What precautions should be taken when machining titanium materials?

When machining titanium,the following characteristics of titanium should be taken into account:
(1)Titanium has a high friction coefficient,which leads to high temperatures in the chips during the cutting process,thereby accelerating tool wear;
(2)Titanium has low thermal conductivity,and the chips are tough and do not curl.The heat generated by friction with the tool tip is almost entirely concentrated on the cutting edge and the rake face of the tool,causing the cutting edge to burn.Therefore,the feed rate should not be too small,and the cutting speed should not be too high,otherwise it is easy for the tool to stick and the fine titanium chips to burn,causing accidents;
(3)Due to the low elastic modulus of titanium,deep cutting of thin workpieces is prone to deflection,causing the workpiece to easily separate from the tool.Therefore,an anti-vibration mount should be installed during processing;
(4)Titanium is highly reactive at high temperatures,which can easily lead to surface contamination of workpieces during processing;
(5)Due to the presence of oxides,nitrides,and carbides with high hardness in titanium,the cutting edges of tools are prone to rapid wear during machining;
(6)When cutting titanium,the cutting force is relatively small,and tool marks are less likely to occur during the cutting process,thus enabling machining with a higher surface finish.
