Titanium rods are materials formed by rolling or extrusion of titanium and titanium alloys,commonly including pure titanium rods and titanium alloy rods.The process flow is as follows:raw materials--preliminary treatment--rolling--heat treatment--straightening--post-treatment--inspection--packaging--storage.Titanium rods exhibit excellent heat resistance,with a melting point as high as 1725℃.At room temperature,titanium is resistant to corrosion in various strong acid and alkali solutions,even aqua regia cannot corrode it.Due to its corrosion resistance,titanium is often used in the chemical industry.In the past,components in chemical reactors that contained hot nitric acid were made of stainless steel.Stainless steel cannot resist strong corrosive agents such as hot nitric acid,and most components had to be replaced every six months.Nowadays,these components are made of titanium,which,although more expensive than stainless steel components,can be used continuously for five to ten years,significantly reducing the annual cost.
When titanium smelting first began in the last century,the output was only 2 tons.Subsequently,due to the maturity of technology,the production of titanium has greatly increased.Titanium rods have a hardness similar to steel,but their weight is only half that of steel.Although titanium is slightly heavier than aluminum,its hardness is twice that of aluminum.Nowadays,titanium is widely used in place of steel in aerospace applications.According to statistics,the annual amount of titanium used for space travel in the world has reached over 1,000 tons.Therefore,titanium is known as the"space metal"or"metal for the universe".Titanium rods can resist corrosion in strong acid and alkali solutions and other highly corrosive environments.Their excellent electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance make them widely used in industrial production such as petroleum,chemical,metallurgical,salt production,and alkali production,yielding significant social and economic benefits.
The application fields of titanium rods in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries
(1)Chemical industry materials.The excellent performance of titanium rods and titanium equipment has led to their widespread application in the field of chemical industry materials.For example,ozone disinfection is applied in drinking water treatment,and the characteristics of titanium rod filters are also utilized.The oxidation resistance of titanium rod filters makes them suitable for filtering water after ozone exposure and ozone disinfection.The high specific strength of titanium rod filters ensures that they do not fall off,and they are widely used in reverse osmosis filtration,electroosmosis filtration,and ultrafiltration systems in water treatment.Titanium rod filters can replace mechanical filtration,achieving small size,low cost,good performance,and convenient installation and regeneration.
(2)Pharmaceutical materials.With the implementation of pharmaceutical GMP,titanium plates and equipment have been widely used in the filtration of pharmaceutical infusion solutions,small injections,and pharmaceutical intermediates.Now,80%of injection and infusion solution manufacturers nationwide have adopted this technology.Additionally,due to the non-toxicity and good biocompatibility of titanium materials with the human body,titanium plates,rods,wires,and other titanium materials have been used as human implants in various hospitals and clinical settings by medical surgeons.
