2011/5/6 17:44:07

According to foreign media reports, vsmpo AVISMA, the world's largest titanium producer, and Boeing, an American aircraft manufacturer, have established a new joint venture manufacturing plant in Sverdlovsk, Ural Province, Russia. The joint venture will process titanium forgings for Boeing civil aircraft, such as 737max, 787 and 777x. In addition, the joint venture will receive an investment of 5.5 billion rubles (US $82.3 million). The new joint venture will operate with the existing joint ventures of Boeing and vsmpo AVISMA. AVISMA has been producing titanium forgings since 2009 and has provided titanium to Boeing on a long-term contract. According to the Russian company, it meets 35% of Boeing's commercial aircraft demand for titanium.

In April this year, after the United States imposed a new round of sanctions on Russia, Russian parliamentarians called for stopping the supply of titanium to Boeing. However, the government did not accept this proposal.
